Fontbonne gets a sweep in SLIAC opener

March 26, 2008 - The Fontbonne University women's softball team opened St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) play with a doubleheader sweep of Westminster College last night. The Griffins won the first game 6-0 and the second 9-2. The victories improved the Griffins overall record to 4-8 overall and 2-0 in the SLIAC.

In the first game, Fontbonne freshman Brittany Kirn pitched a complete game shutout allowing just two hits and one walk while striking out four. Kirn had a no-hitter through six innings. Fontbonne freshman outfielder Leah Thomas led the way offensively with two hits, two RBI's and one run scored. Eight of Fontbonne's nine hitters recorded at least one hit in the first game.

In the nightcap, Fontbonne got three hits, two RBI's and two runs scored from senior second baseman Allison Wagner. Courtney Schofield pitched the complete game allowing seven hits and two runs while striking out five.
