Freshmen lead track teams

April 1, 2008 - The Fontbonne University men's and women's track teams got outstanding individual performances from two freshman sensations in their first outdoor meet of the season this past weekend at the Washington University Invitational.

Freshman Rachel Hanson (Clarksville, TN) and freshman Everett Jackson ( University City, MO) both put together solid performances this weekend to lead the Griffins. Hanson finished the 5,000 meter run in a time of 19:07 which bettered her best indoor time by 53 seconds. Hanson is closing in on the NCAA national qualifying time of 17:45. Hanson also won her heat of the metric mile in a time of 5:23.

Jackson broke the two-minute barrier in the 800 for the first time this season. Battling a head win on the backstretch, Jackson turned in a time of 1:59.86 seconds, placing second in his heat. Jackson also won his section of the metric mile in a time of 4:25. Sophomore Alyssa Brocco (St. Louis, MO) also turned in a strong performance in the 400 with a time of 65.95.

The track teams will again participate at Washington University this Friday and Saturday.
