March 8, 2008 - The Fontbonne University men's basketball team saw their season come to an end last night in the first round of the NCAA Division III National Tournament as the Griffins lost to the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor 65-62. Fontbonne finished the season 21-7 and St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Post Season Tournament Champions. The 21 wins is the best the Griffins have recorded since the 1993-94. Fontbonne battled the #12-ranked team in the country to the final buzzer this weekend but couldn't find the shot to tie. Fontbonne held a four-point lead with just minutes to go in the game but Mary-Hardin forced the Griffins into a few turnovers a capitalized to steal the game in the final minutes. Fontbonne was led by sophomore guard Josh Branch who scored 20 points while junior forward Justin Storandt scored 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds. Fontbonne returns 13 players from this year's team next year as they will try to advance to the NCAA Tournament for the third straight year.
