Griffins fall to Colorado College

April 7, 2008 - The Fontbonne University men's lacrosse team hung tough early but a devasating second quarter proved to be their demise as they fell to Colorado College this weekend 18-8. The loss dropped the Griffins to 3-5 on the season.

Just 20 seconds into the game, Fontbonne opened the scoring when sophomore Brooks McGee scored on an assist from Patrick Zeis. After Colorado College tied it, Fontbonne took their second lead of the game when Josh Albrecht scored an unassisted goal. Colorado College scored the next two goals to take their first lead at the 6:36 mark of the first quarter. Fontbonne responded by tying the game just 26 seconds later as Jaron Klopstein scored on an assist from Patrick Zeis. From that point on Colorado College took control of the game.

Colorado College scored 13 of the next 15 goals including outscoring Fontbonne 8-2 in the second quarter. Colorado College outshot Fontbonne23-5 in the second quarter. Colorado College took a 13-5 lead into halftime.

In the second half, Fontbonne continued to struggle to get opportunities at Colorado College held the Griffins to seven shots in the second half. Colorado College also dominated the ground ball game as they collected 41 to Fontbonne's 22.

For the game, Fontbonne got two goals and two assists each from Patrick Zeis and Brooks McGee. Jaron Klopstein, Kendall Eckles, Josh Albrecht and Tim Ganey tallied a goal each for the Griffins. In the cage, Austen Doster recorded 12 saves while allowing 13 goals in 30 minutes and John Gornik recorded three saves while allowing five goals in 30 minutes.

Fontbonne returns to the field this weekend when they travel to play Washington & Jefferson College on April 12 at 4:00 p.m.
