March 31, 2008 - The Fontbonne University women's lacrosse team fell to Wittenberg University on Saturday (March 29) 14-5 to drop to 2-4 this season. The Griffins started off slow as Wittenberg scored the game's first two goals. The Griffins however rebounded to scored six minutes into the game to cut the deficit to 2-1. After Wittenberg scored less than a minute later to make it 3-1, Fontbonne responded with a goal at the 21 minute mark to put the score at 3-2. Wittenberg then slowly began to take control of the game. Wittenberg scored the next six goals of the half and took a 9-2 lead into halftime. Fontbonne stepped up their defense in the second half limiting Wittenberg to five goals on 19 shots. The Griffins showed alot of fight late as Fontbonne scored the last three goals of the game to make the final margin 14-5. Offensively, Fontbonne junior Katie Radeackar continue to stay hot as she scored three goals. She now leads the team with 29 goals in six games. The Griffins also got goals from Emily Schallenberg and Marisa Williams. Danielle Donze and Shelby Leislter tallied an assist for Fontbonne. Defensively, Fontbonne freshman goalie Claire Kallio led the way recording 14 saves. Sophomore Rosemary Patterson caused seven turnovers while Donze picked up a team high 12 ground balls. The Griffins return to action on April 6 as they host Linfield College at noon at Gay Field in Clayton.
