Jan. 13, 2008 - The Fontbonne University women's basketball team held Principia College to 20 percent shooting and just 36 points as they defeated the Panthers 82-36. The victory improved the Griffins record to 5-7 overall and 4-1 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC). Principia fell to 2-7 overall and 1-3 in the SLIAC. After a close initial 10 minutes, Fontbonne pulled away late in the first half in this game. Fontbonne senior Kristin Chamberlain and junior Lauren Crain paced the Griffins in the first half as they each scored 10 points. Chamberlain also pulled down seven rebounds in the opening 20 minutes. Fontbonne went into the locker room with a 37-18 lead. In the second half, the Griffins held Principia without a field goal for over five minutes in the opening minutes. The Griffins held Principia to 18 percent shooting in the second half. Fontbonne was led by Crain who finished with 15 points followed closely by Chamberlain with 14 points and junior Katie Kirby with 11 points. Fontbonne returns to the court Wednesday night when they travel to Maryville University to play the defending conference champion. Maryville also currently sit in first place in the SLIAC at 4-0. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
