April 6, 2008 - The Fontbonne University women's lacrosse team beat Linfield College today 13-7 while setting a new school record for wins in a season. The Griffins inched closer to a .500 record as they improved to 3-4 on the season. In just their second year as a NCAA sanctioned program, the three wins is a new school record for wins in a season. The Griffins today got outstanding offensive performances from sophomore Emily Schallenberg and freshman Shelby Leistler. Schallenberg scored four goals and Leistler netted three. Schallenberg got the Griffins off to a quick start by scoring two goals in the game's opening five minutes. After Linfield countered with a goal of their own to cut the deficit in half, Fontbonne scored the next two goals to increase their lead to 4-1. Linfield battled to get back into the game scoring the next three goals to tie the score at 4-4. Fontbonne then took control of the game scoring the next four goals. Leistler scored two goals in that stretch which put the Griffins in control of the game. Fontbonne took a 8-5 lead into halftime. Fontbonne maintained in control of the game in the second half as they played solid defense through the final 30 minutes. Fontbonne held Linfield to just two goals on 12 shots in the second half. Meanwhile five different Griffins scored goals to put the game out of reach. Overall, Schallenberg lead Fontbonne with four goals while junior Kaite Radeackar scored three goals and added two assists. Leistler pitched in three goals and assist, Emily Spalding recorded two goals and Jessica Duetsch tallied one goal. Freshman Claire Kallion recorded eight saves to pick up her third victory of the season. Fontbonne returns the field next weekend as they go on the road to play Adrian College and Tri-State University.
