Griffins open SLIAC play with a three-game sweep

March 24, 2008 - The Fontbonne University baseball team opened St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) play with a three-game sweep of MacMurray College this past weekend. The wins improved the Griffins overall record to 5-5 and gave them a 3-0 SLIAC record.

During the three-game series, Fontbonne outscored MacMurray 46-8. Fontbonne won 28-4, 13-4 and 5-0. The series was highlighted by Fontbonne freshman pitcher David Willey, who pitched a complete game shutout in the series finale. Willey allowed only four hits while striking out eight Highlanders.

Fontbonne now opens a three-game series with SLIAC pre-season favorite Webster University tonight at 7:30 pm at Shaw Park in Clayton. Fontbonne and Webster will square off in a doubleheader tomorrow night (March 25) at GMAC Stadium beginning at 4:00 p.m.
