Feb. 11, 2008 - The Fontbonne University men's basketball team returned to their winning ways this weekend beating Eureka College 81-70. The victory improved Fontbonne's overall record to 16-4 and their St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference record to 10-2. After their 12-game winning streak was stopped earlier in the week by Webster University, the Griffins came flying out the gates Saturday. Fontbonne shot 50 percent in the first half as seven different players scored led by sophomore guard Josh Branch's 12 points. Eureka however hung right with the Griffins offensively. The Red Devils shot 41 percent in the opening 20 minutes and only trailed Fontbonne 40-35 going into halftime. In the second half, Fontbonne didn't shoot the ball as well but dominated the boards. Fontbonne out-rebounded Eureka 25-14 in the second half including 15-5 in offensive rebounds. Fontbonne senior Chad Fournie paced the Griffins as he scored nine second half points while grabbing seven rebounds. For the game, four Fontbonne players scored in double figures led by Branch with 17 points. Fournie scored a season-high 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds. Fontbonne returns to the court Wednesday night when they host Maryville University at 8:00 pm.
