Men's soccer team stays unbeaten in conference

The Fontbonne University men’s soccer team got two goals in a three-minute span in the second half to earn a 3-1 lead then held on for a 3-2 victory over Greenville College on Saturday. The victory improved Fontbonne’s record to 8-3-4 overall and 6-0 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC).

Fontbonne opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a goal from senior Joe Genovese. Greenville even the score in the 30th minute and the game was knotted at halftime. Freshmen Mike Flieg scored his second goal of the season in the 47th minute then sophomore Mike Utley added an insurance tally just three minutes later. Greenville scored in the 52nd minute to pull the Panthers within one but the Griffins held on for the 3-2 victory.

Fontbonne returns to the field Tuesday night as they travel to Elsah, Illinois to play Principia College in a SLIAC battle of undefeated teams. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
