Women's cross country team finishes a close second
The Fontbonne University women’s cross country team ran their best race of the season this weekend at the St. Louis College of Pharmacy Invitational held at Forest Park. The Griffins finished in second place at their meet just four points behind the host school.
Fontbonne was once again paced by freshman Rachel Hanson (Rossview High School), who is still recovering from a foot injury. Hanson paced herself to a third place overall finish. The women received the strongest efforts of the year from freshman Alex Weatherby (Soldan H.S.) and freshman Tricia Morris (Trinity H.S.) who finished in 5th and 8th places respectively. Freshman Marcey Cox (Herculaneum H.S.) sprinted to her best time of the year as she finished in 12th place. Rounding out the pack for the Griffin women were Kay Hart (Central H.S.) 16th place, freshman Sarah Wolhshlager (Northwest H.S.) 19th place, sophomore Monica Eelenbracht (Dow High School, Dow, MI) 21st place, freshman JillianWolhshlager (Northwest H.S.), 23rdplace and sophomore Kelly Schumacher (Lutheran South H.S).The Griffins hope to use Saturday’s fine performances as a spring board for continued improvement as they head into the most critical part of their schedule. This Saturday, the team will compete in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) Meet held in Hillsboro, IL. On November 10th, the Griffins will travel to Oshkosh, WI to participate in the NCAA Midwest Regional Meet.
