The Fontbonne University women’s soccer team won the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opener on Saturday beating Blackburn College 2-0. The victory improved the Griffins overall record to 4-2 and gave them a 1-0 conference record.

Senior Nikki Respi scored her third goal of the season in the 67^th minute to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead. Junior Erin Pipitone recorded her first goal of the season five minutes later to give Fontbonne a little insurance. Junior Angie Weber and sophomore Stephanie Selvaggio combined to shutout Blackburn.

The women’s team returns to the pitch on Wednesday night when they play Maryville University at 5:00 p.m. at Sportport in Maryland Heights.
