Women's lacrosse kicks off practice

Jan. 17, 2008 - The Fontbonne University women's lacrosse team opened practice this week on their second season as a NCAA sanctioned program. Fontbonne is the only NCAA school in Missouri to offer an NCAA sanctioned women's lacrosse program. Last year, in their first year, the Griffins went 1-9 with their lone win coming against the Missouri Baptist club team.

This year, the Griffins will be led by new head coach Monica Potter. Potter starts this year with close to 20 girls reporting to camp. More than half of those girls played on last year's team. The 2008 schedule features more than 10 games against other NCAA sanctioned programs. The schedule includes a trip to the great northeast for games in Washington and Oregon. Fontbonne opens their schedule on the road at University of the South on March 8th against Ferrum College. Fontbonne turns around on March 9th and plays University of the South. The Griffins first home game is on March 29th at Wittenberg University at 3:00 p.m.

Fontbonne is a NCAA Div. III independent that plays their home games and practices at Gay Field in Clayton, Missouri.
