March 10, 2008 - The Fontbonne University women's lacrosse team squandered a four-goal halftime lead and lost their 2008 opener to University of the South on Sunday (March 9) 12-11. Fontbonne freshman Marisa Williams (Zionsville, IN) opened the scoring for the Griffins just minutes into the game giving Fontbonne an early 1-0 lead. The Griffins continued to build on that early momentum as they took a 8-4 lead into halftime. University of the South picked up their play in the second half to rally to get back into the game. University of the South outscored Fontbonne 8-3 in the second half to secure the 12-11 win. Fontbonne fell to 0-1 on the season while University of the South improved to 2-1. Fontbonne was led by junior Katie Radeackar (Cedar Hill, MO) who tallied six of the Griffins 11 goals. Freshman goalie Claire Kallio (Medina, OH) recorded eight saves on the day. Fontbonne finished 15-21 in clear attempts and picked up 24 groundballs compared to University of the South's 20. Fontbonne first game of their trip was cancelled due to inclement weather. The Griffins return to action next weekend when they travel to the great northwest for four games. Fontbonne will play University of Puget Sound on March 16, Pacific University on March 18, University of Dallas on March 19 and Linfield College on March 20.
