April 14, 2008 - Fontbonne University junior Patrick Zeis scored six goals and added three assists as the Griffins inched closer to .500 by beating Washington & Jefferson College 13-11 on Saturday, April 12. The victory improved the Griffins record to 6-7 on the season with two games remaining. After Fontbonne fell behind 3-2 early in the second quarter, the Griffins took control of the game by scoring the next four goals to take a 6-3 lead. Zeis scored two goals and assisted on another during that pivotal strecth. Early in the third quarter, after Fontbonne took a 6-3 lead, the Griffins increased their defensive pressure. Fontbonne only allowed Washington & Jefferson six shots in the third quarter as Fontbonne tallied 12. For the game Fontbonne outshot Washington & Jefferson 42 to 34. Fontbonne took an 8-6 lead into the final quarter before both teams let out an offensive explosion. Both teams scored five goals apiece in the final 15:00 minutes. The Griffins however never relinquished their lead and Washington & Jefferson never got closer than two goals. In addition to Zeis' contributions, Fontbonne got three goals and an assist from Kendall Eckles, two goals from Elliot Bender, a goal each from Josh Albrecht and Tim Ganey, and an assist each from Benjamin Schaefer, Jaron Klopstein and Brooks McGee. Fontbonne goalie Austen Doster recording five saves while picking up his fourth win. Fontbonne plays at College of Mount St. Joseph on April 20th at 7:00 pm.
