Writing Assistance
The Kinkel Center for Academic Resources has two professional Writing Specialists on staff to assist Fontbonne University students during face to face tutoring appointments and through an online writing service. Writing Specialists can assist students during all phases of the writing process - from brainstorming to polishing a final draft.
During a tutoring appointment, a Writing Specialist will ask the student to explain the assignment and to provide guidelines (if available) for the assignment. The specialist will then review and comment on the paper, generally identifying Higher Order Concerns (HOCS) such as organization, clarity, and focus, followed by Lower Order Concerns (LOCS) such as grammar, punctuation, or usage errors. It is important to understand that Writing Specialists are not editors, but tutors, who will engage students in a conversation about their papers and attempt to guide students to effective writing. However, as authors, students are ultimately responsible for the written work.

To submit a paper to the online writing service, email paper as a Word document to writing@fontbonne.edu. Please inlude a description of the assignment, the instructor's name, and your student ID number. Your paper will be reviewed within 48 hours, excluding weekends and holidays.
