The Kinkel Center for Academic Resources serves as the testing center for Fontbonne University. Students with ADA accommodations test in the Center. Many students enrolled in online courses in St. Louis use the Center for exams, as do athletes who miss tests for games, or students who have been absent. Testing is an arrangement between faculty and students, administered by the center staff. It is the responsibility of the student to confer with the instructor about testing in the Center, to decide upon an appropriate time to take the test, to remind the instructor to deliver the test to the Center, then to schedule an appointment with the Center at least 24 hours in advance of the test to insure the availability of a proctor. Failure to schedule an appointment often results in disappointment on the part of the student when no one is available to proctor the test. It is the responsibility of the faculty member to place each student’s test in a test envelope, which is available in the Center and in the faculty mailroom, and to either deliver the envelope to the Kinkel Center or to place the envelope in the Kinkel Center mailbox in the university mailroom in Ryan Hall. Each envelope must be appropriately filled out with specific instructions for the test and for the return of the test to the instructor, either through campus mail or by holding for pick-up. For security purposes, tests may not be e-mailed to staff members. Guidelines for Working With Students With DisabilitiesEach semester, Fontbonne University has between 80 and 100 students who receive some type of accommodation for a disability. They are usually students who understand the work involved in getting an education and know what they must do to achieve their goals. Fontbonne University accommodates students with disabilities because it is the law, but, also, because it is the right thing to do.
