Dedicated Semester Activities:*Check back for periodic updates! - First year common reading: "They Poured Fire on Us from The Sky" by Benson and Alephonsion Deng and Benjamin Ajak is the true story of three young boys among the thousands of "Lost Boys" who were driven from war-torn Sudan in the mid-1980s. Benjamin Ajak will visit campus Sept. 10 - 11.
- Faculty/staff book club: Fontbonne faculty and staff will meet to discuss "They Poured Fire on Us from The Sky."
- DVD series: Through 30-minute films and discussions, the eight goals will be explored on designated Tuesdays at 12:30 and 7 p.m. in the Lewis Room of the Library. Open to the Fontbonne and local communities.
- Guest speakers: On the schedule to date are a Doctors Without Borders physician, a Peace Corps volunteer and a neonatologist.
- Travel: Students who participate in activities will be eligible for a drawing for travel.
- Fall Academic Convocation: Guest speaker will be Dr. Ada Maria Isasi-Diaz, a Cuban immigrant and professor of ethics and theology at Drew University in New Jersey.
- December ’08 Commencement: Guest speaker will be Sister Carol Zinn, SSJ, the Sisters of St. Joseph representative to the United Nations.
- Hunger Banquet: Experience what an average meal is like in a poor country, and learn what you can do to stem world hunger at this eye-opening event Sept. 29.
- Theatre: Mustard Seed Theatre will present a staged reading of “Mother Teresa is Dead” Dec. 5-8. This thought-provoking play, written by Helen Edmundson, explores poverty and privilege.
