What are the Millennium Development Goals?
The eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) - which range from halving extreme poverty to halting the spread of HIV/AIDS and providing universal primary education, all by the target date of 2015 - form a blueprint agreed to by all the world's countries and leading development institutions. They have galvanized unprecedented efforts to meet the needs of the world's poorest. Under the direction of international economist Professor Jeffrey Sachs, the Earth Institute supports pioneering projects in the biological, engineering, social, and health sciences, while actively encouraging interdisciplinary projects in pursuit of solutions to real world problems. Sachs also serves as Special Advisor to United Nations Secretary-General on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), and is head of the United Nations Millennium Project. Earth Institute faculty lead several MDG task forces.

This is a 21-page progress report for the year of 2007 that tracks the achievements of each goal with charts, graphs, statistics, detailed narrative and beautiful color photos.
The Millennium Development Goals Report 2006 (PDF file)
A progress report for the UN Millennium Project, it contains charts and graphs displaying statistics for the achievement of each goal region by region: Sub-Saharan Africa, Southern Asia, Eastern Asia South-Eastern Asia and South-Eastern Asia, Oceania, Latin American & the Caribbean, Northern Africa and Western Asia, and transition countries of South-Eastern Europe.
The Millennium Development Progress Chart 2007 (PDF file)
This one page color-coded chart tracks the progress of each goal to indicate if the goal has been met, if it will be met by 2015, if it is not expected to be met by 2015, or if no progress has been made.
Development and the Next Generation: World Development Report 2007 (Links to PDF and Text versions)
The theme of the World Development Report (WDR) 2007 is youth, aged 12 to 24. To mobilize the economic and political resources, countries must resolve three issues: better coordination and integration with national policy, stronger voice, and more evaluation. In addition, the WDR examines both youth migration, and their increasing use of new technologies.

The World Bank's website has an entire section devoted the UN Millennium Development Goals. There is also a section devoted to students and teachers with information on economic and sustainable development issues such as micro credit. Multimedia content includes YouThink! Goal 1 - Addressing Poverty and Hunger
The American Dietetics Association Journal's Global Theme Issue on Poverty and Human Development.
The Journal of the American Dietetic Association devoted its entire 2007 November issue to this vital topic, with new research, review articles, editorials, perspectives, news stories and other articles. In keeping with the Global Theme Issue's spirit of collaboration and outreach, the Journal has designated all research articles in November as "open access," meaning they will be freely available to members and non-members alike.

Goal 7 - Addressing the Environment
