Given the requirements of state and national agencies for the improvement of student achievement, as well as the even more pressing need for students to be able to communicate effectively for lifetime success, all teachers must be able to engage in efforts to improve student writing skills. Those completing the program will not only be able to improve classroom skills, but will also be prepared to take leadership roles at the school and/or district level as professional development experts in the teaching of writing. In larger districts, positions may be available, or may become available, which offer assistance to classroom teachers in the teaching of writing.
