Program Details
Degree requirements:
The master’s degree in education is a 32-33 hour graduate program dedicated to provide classroom teachers at all levels and subject matter areas with the tools to improve student writing skills.
General requirements:
Core:
- EDU 541 Frameworks for Learning (3 hours)
- EDU 542 The Teacher as Leader (3 hours)
- EDU 585 Research Methods in Education (3 hours)
- EDU 544 Action Research (2 hours)
Concentration:
- EDU 554 The Teaching of Writing I: Theory (3 hours*)
- EDU 555 The Teaching of Writing II: Application (3 hours*)
- EDU 556 Writing Assessment and Instruction (3 hours)
- EDU 557 Teaching Grammar Within the Writing Process (3 hours)
- EDU 550 Reading and Writing across the Curriculum (3 hours)
- EDU 551 Literature-based Reading for Diverse Learners (3 hours)
- Electives 3-4 hours
- Total: 32-33 hours
*In lieu of these courses, Fontbonne University will accept up to six hours of credit granted by other universities for intensive writing institutes/workshops or may grant credit, at a reduced rate of tuition, for such workshops upon appropriate validation of participation and application.
