Teaching – Speech & Theatre

Combine your love of theatre with your desire to teach. Fontbonne’s Master of Arts in Teaching: Speech & Theatre merges the education classes you need for certification with the discipline classes necessary to obtain your master’s degree. You’ll leave Fontbonne with tools, connections and experiences that will make you a strong educator.

Classes are small and focused, with day, evening and weekend programs so you can maximize and organize your time. Our professors are knowledgeable, experienced and committed to your success. You’ll also have the opportunity to work with Fontbonne’s professional in-residence theatre company, Mustard Seed Theatre. This partnership gives you personal, hands-on experience right from the start, and you’ll gain experience and make connections in St. Louis’ professional theatre scene.

This unique combination of liberal arts education and professional theatre experience is only available at Fontbonne. And if you already work as an educator at least part time, you may be eligible for a tuition discount.

Learn from the Best

Fontbonne Theatre Director and Founder of Mustard Seed Theatre, Deanna Jent, has had many career highlights over the years, but most recently, and perhaps most notably, is the success of her original play, “Falling,” which is based on her own experience as the mother of a son with severe autism. The play caught the attention of St. Louis native and theatre producer Terry Schnuck, who was instrumental in bringing it to New York City, where it played off-Broadway in the fall of 2012.
