Teaching - Family and Consumer Sciences

Fontbonne offers a Master’s of Art in Teaching degree with a concentration in Family and Consumer Sciences.

Graduates from the MAT in FCS will be instrumental in helping middle and high school students develop the knowledge and skills necessary to address their personal and familial needs for food, housing, clothing, childcare, personal and financial well-being.

The end result of an MAT in FCS comprises FCS certification (birth-12), allowing graduates to teach in comprehensive Family and Consumer Sciences programs.

In addition, FCS certification allows individuals to teach both personal finance and health education, subjects required for all Missouri high school students. The MAT in FCS affords graduate students the opportunity to study deeply within the field of education so that they can positively contribute to the education community upon graduation.

Master's Degree in Family and Consumer Sciences

We also offer a newly revamped master’s degree in family and consumer sciences that provides a strong professional knowledge base to enhance skills in advocacy and leadership, enabling graduates to effectively work with families locally and globally.
