Where am I?

Theatre

They say that experience is a great teacher. We agree and have created a unique and exciting program that enables theatre teachers, and others interested in this career, to share experiences, interact with peers, become active in the professional community and advance their careers and artistic crafts.

Fontbonne University’s Master of Arts in Theatre is the only master’s program available in the St. Louis area that allows you to create a flexible program combining studies in theatre with other areas of interest, including graphic arts, education, visual arts and business.

Classes are small and focused with day, evening and weekend programs that accommodate the personal needs of each student. Professors are knowledgeable, experienced and committed to your success. Best of all, you’ll study and learn with your educational peers in the community — at your own pace — and share tips and techniques on how to inspire brilliant performances by your students.

More Flexibility

Students deal with projects in their own discipline. Elective classes enable you to customize your learning experience. Flexible hours make it easy to schedule up to three classes a semester around your demanding schedule.

An exciting opportunity for our graduate students is Mustard Seed Theatre, a new professional in-residence theatre company at Fontbonne. The company is headed by Artistic Director and Fontbonne Professor Deanna Jent. Both undergraduate and graduate students have internship opportunities with the company, which focuses on plays exploring faith and social justice.

Students will gain not only professional experience (and a great credit on a resume) but also connections to the larger world of professional theatre in St. Louis. This unique combination of liberal arts education and professional theatre experience is only available at Fontbonne University.

What Can I Do With My Degree?

A master's degree in theatre opens doors to teaching positions at private high schools and colleges. It's also the first step toward a terminal degree, such as a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) or a doctorate.

Our Commitment

Fontbonne University is dedicated to providing students with a strong foundation in the liberal arts. Through our core curriculum, students learn how to think critically, solve problems and communicate effectively. No matter what career path you choose, an education from Fontbonne will give you the tools to succeed in both work and life.
