The Summer Literacy Institute, focused on reading and reading comprehension, offers four days of high quality professional development. Four national speakers will be right here in St. Louis to provide keynote sessions on reading strategies, assessment of reading progress, and teaching reading in diverse classrooms using children's and young adult literature.

Our popular Institute structure offers opportunities for participants to:

Hear these national speakers -- close to home

Participate in grade-level workshops--led by area teacher leaders--designed to show how these ideas can be adapted at different levels of schooling

Debrief the conference sessions and share professional experiences and questions with an interactive, small-group session with an experienced facilitator

Work with school colleagues to develop plans for taking new information back for the new school year
