Fontbonne University and Abydos Learning International

Fontbonne University acknowledges the significant contributions of Abydos International in the professional development of teachers in the writing process. We are pleased to partner with Abydos for the purpose of offering graduate credit based upon the theory and application embedded in writing institutes. Credit for successful completion of initial Abydos workshops is provided as follows:

  • EDU 554 The Teaching of Writing I: Theory (3 hrs.)
  • EDU 555 The Teaching of Writing II: Application (3 hrs.)

The following forms are to be completed after final grades are recorded upon the workshop’s conclusion:

Should participants wish to extend their experiences into an advanced degree with a writing emphasis, Fontbonne University offers the Master of Arts in Education: The Teaching of Writing across the Curriculum.

The courses above are offered to Abydos participants at $100 per credit hour. Additional courses at the $100 per credit hour rate are available to those seeing the full MA in Education.

MASTER OF ARTS IN EDUCATION

Program Purpose:

The Master of Arts in Education: The Teaching of Writing across the Curriculum addresses a need to provide teachers an avenue for further professional growth. Evidence supportsthe teaching of writing as a major component in the development of higher-order thinnking skills and the overall growth of the student in a manner consistent with the constructivist practice. The program begins with six hours delivered in a three-week writing institute, through Abydos International, and the remaining hours are delivered online.

Program Requirements:

The degree requires a minimum of 32-33 credit hours. Applicants who have completed any of the requisite courses at another institution may, upon approval of the graduate director, transfer up to six hours of credit toward partial fulfillment of the degree. This program was designed to build upon experiences in the Abydos three-week writing institute and continue with a trainer and non-trainer track master's degree.
