The Fontbonne University Master's Program in Speech-Language Pathology prepares communication sciences and disorders professionals to be leaders as well as clinicians. Fontbonne graduates leave the program prepared to work in a wide variety of settings across the lifespan of their career. With a master's degree, a requirement for employment in speech-language pathology in Missouri and across the country, graduates can look forward to a career with many options while sharing the gift of communication. Through opportunities for research and clinical practicum, speech-language pathology graduate students form a close faculty-student relationship that provides support for student learning. Through the many practicum opportunities, students gain real-world experience under the mentorship of experiencced working professionals. The value of this teaching approach was recognized with the award of a grant to fund a graduate program in speech-language pathology with an emphasis in deafness. In addition, in 2003, the university was awarded $1 million in federal partnership funds for the establishment of the Fontbonne University Center for Teacher and Therapist Education. The new center, which opened in 2004, provides a collaborative setting for training teachers certified in speech-language pathology, deaf education, education and special education and serves as a unique national model for how to prepare a new generation of speech-language pathologists. Classes are small. Faculty are nationally recognized, experienced and committed to the success of students. Many of our faculty work in clinical settings and can share their expertise in preparing students who have an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of patients and their families. In addition to general preparation, Fontbonne offers a uniqe track in its graduate program, which prepares speech-language pathologists who have additional expertise working with children who are deaf/hard-of-hearing.
