Master of Science in Taxation

Eckelkamp College of Global BusinessThe Fontbonne OPTIONS M.S. in Taxation is designed for practicing accountants and certified public accountants, as well as enrolled agents and professionals with a strong background in the accounting and tax fields. The highly specialized program is best suited for candidates committed to a career in taxation. The Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2008-09 Occupational Outlook Handbook sites strong growth of job opportunities in the accounting field through 2016, with faster-than-average employment anticipated.

The master's in Taxation has eight-week evening and Saturday morning courses offered in three terms around the tax season. The 30 credit-hour program can generally be completed in about two to three years. There are also two 15 credit-hour graduate certificates in business or individual taxation available.

  • Federal Income Taxation
  • Tax Practice and Procedure
  • Tax Research Methods
  • Tax Accounting
  • Taxation of Corporations and Shareholders
  • Taxation of Partners, Partnerships, and S Corporations

Elective Core (choice of four courses):

  • Estate and Gift Taxation and Planning
  • Taxation of Real Estate
  • Pensions, Profit Sharing and Deferred Compensation
  • International Taxation
  • Multi-state Taxation
  • Advanced Corporate Taxation

Four prerequisite courses must be completed prior to enrolling.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS: 

  • An application accompanied by a non-refundable $25 application fee payable to Fontbonne University.
  • A bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited, degree-granting college or university. Official transcript must be received from the degree-granting institution.
  • Overall grade point average of 2.75 on a 4-point scale.*
  • Resume reflecting a minimum of three (3) years of significant, full-time work experience.
  • Two letters of recommendation from professional references.
  • A 200 to 300 word self-statement describing your background, successes, and reasons for pursuing your graduate degree from Fontbonne.
  • GMAT Score of at least 475 or two years full time experience working in the field of tax.
  • Applicants whose native language is not English must pass the TOEFL with a score of 197 CBT / 71 IBT / 5.5 IELTS or a Fontbonne-authorized equivalent test.
