Understanding the FAFSA

In order to be considered for financial aid programs, you must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA is available from the Fontbonne OPTIONS Financial Aid Office and must be completed each year that you are enrolled.

After you submit your FAFSA, your submission will be confirmed and you will be provided with your Student Aid Report (SAR). Review the information carefully making sure that everything is correct. If you find errors, make corrections at this time.

Federal regulations require Fontbonne University to verify information reported by a randomly selected group of students in a process called verification. For this reason, some students will be required to submit photocopies of their income tax returns and W2's to the financial aid office.

Using a formula established by Congress, the FAFSA determines how much you are expected to provide toward the cost of your education. This formula takes into consideration family income and assets, family size, the number of family members in college and many other factors to arrive at your Expected Family Contribution (EFC).

After determining your EFC, Fontbonne University will calculate your financial aid award. You will receive an award letter explaining the amounts that you were awarded in loans and grants.

In order to remain eligible for financial aid, students must maintain satisfactory academic progress.
