Sports Management — a multi-billion dollar industry — combines your love of business, management and athletics.
Sports and athletics have become increasingly popular, both for participants and spectators. Our sports management major prepares graduates for a broad range of career opportunities in emerging fields, such as sports information management, non-profit sports administration and sports facility management. If you’re interested in a different kind of management job, and you love athletics, this is the field for you.
Why Sports Management with Fontbonne?
Fontbonne’s sports management program is unique because of its emphasis on business, science, nutrition and health. Plus, with Fontbonne’s student-centered approach to teaching and our small student-to-teacher ratio, you’ll always receive individual attention.
Our comprehensive business program provides a strong foundation in the skills you’ll need to succeed in this major and in a sports management career. Key to this program is the variety of courses, which include dynamics of coaching, ethical and legal issues in sports, marketing principles, essentials of human anatomy and physiology, and sports and entertainment marketing. Courses in business writing and statistics provide the necessary edge in business communication, while a required internship — at any number of local sporting organizations — gives you valuable hands-on experience.
Add a minor or an additional major, and you’ll have the opportunity to create a unique career path suited to your interests and expertise.
What Can I Do With My Degree?
You’ll have a broad array of career paths ahead of you with a Fontbonne degree in sports management. Of course there are numerous jobs with professional and collegiate teams, but there are also jobs in athletic associations such as the NFL or the NCAA. Or consider event management — think Rose Bowl, Olympics, or a variety of local events. Recreation-oriented career opportunities also exist at organizations such as the YMCA, even onboard cruise ships or with facilities such as golf courses, stadiums or city parks. Sporting goods companies and the team apparel industry are yet other options.
