Interdisciplinary Studies Degree
Perhaps you have an inquiring mind. Maybe you're interested in, well, everything. Or you might simply realize that the world is a complex place, and you want your education to reflect its diversity. If so, consider Fontbonne University's interdisciplinary studies major. Designed to meet the needs of each individual student, this major offers academic flexibility, providing you with the opportunity to develop an appreciation and grasp of several disciplines.
When you major in interdisciplinary studies, you'll graduate with a unique degree organized around your interests and strengths. But more than that, you'll have the background to critically analyze a wide range of ideas and issues to which other majors might not have even been exposed.
As an interdisciplinary studies major, you'll have a strong foundation in Fontbonne's core curriculum, taking 42 hours of general education classes. You'll then build on this core by choosing three 12-credit blocks designed around different themes, including Language of Science & Technology, Culture, Ethics, Civic Engagement, Creative Performance and Globalization, among others. And in each block, you'll take courses in at least two academic departments. You can also create self-designed blocks in consultation with an academic advisor. So if there's an area you want to delve into, you're able to explore and investigate your interests.
Additionally, Fontbonne encourages you to enhance your degree program through one required minor and additional related minors should you choose to pursue them. And of course, we want you to succeed. When you declare yourself an interdisciplinary studies major, we ask that you submit a statement of purpose, defining your goals for both the program and your professional life. You'll also meet with a career counselor before the completion of the first semester of coursework to make sure you're on track for your anticipated career.
