Where am I?
You’ve always been curious. Your hand is usually raised in class, and you pose questions to your parents, your teachers, your coaches and anyone else who will listen. And you’re not one to remain anywhere near the inside of the box.
If we’ve just described you, you might be interested in Fontbonne’s university major, a unique way to approach your college education. Many smart, passionate Fontbonne students have a hard time narrowing their interests, simply because they don’t fit into just one category. As a university major, you will work with faculty members to choose classes from across the curriculum to develop a unique major. Your major will be based in two or more fields of study, uniting your interests and preparing you for the job or graduate program you really want.
Before declaring your university major, you need to have a clearly defined unifying principle — one that’s either a special career goal or a special interest that crosses interdisciplinary lines — as well as a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 that you must maintain throughout your studies. Once you determine the focus for your university major, you’ll present a proposal of study that contains the name of your University Major, your goals and objectives for your program, specific courses you plan to take, and a recommendation for a primary and secondary advisor. When you’ve gone through the appropriate approval process, you’re ready to step outside that proverbial box and into an individualized area of study.
Our small class sizes and individual attention mean you won’t get lost in the shuffle between the various departments in which you’ll study. You’ll have a home base in the interdisciplinary studies department, and our strong professional programs combine ideally with our vibrant liberal arts courses. With more than 55 majors and minors, you’ll have plenty of options from which to choose. And it’s easy to build off-campus experience or study abroad trips into your course of study.
