Where am I?
Fontbonne University’s honors program is designed to challenge and enrich exceptional students seeking to expand their educational horizons. This program can enhance your collegiate experience by recognizing your talents and your commitment to excel.
You’ll enjoy an interactive relationship with both faculty and fellow students as you approach topics from an in-depth perspective. The honors program helps you embrace the joy of learning in a liberal arts environment. You will learn how to think critically, act ethically and assume responsibility as a citizen and leader — the essence of Fontbonne’s mission.
The honors program has been upgraded with several benefits. You may be eligible for:
- Early registration - Get a jumpstart on registering for the classes you want.
- Financial assistance for study abroad - See the world and receive some credits on us.
- Exclusive scholarships - Enjoy dollars for scholars.
Incoming freshmen with an ACT score of 25 or higher or an outstanding high school record are invited to join the honors program. Students who complete the freshman year at Fontbonne with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better or transfer students who enter with at least 30 credit hours and a GPA of 3.5 will also be invited to enroll. For specific eligibility information, contact your admissions counselor.
Honors courses fit any academic major because they satisfy general education requirements. Additional credits will be earned in courses of your choice. Honors courses feature much in-class discussion, writing — both in and out of class — group projects, off-campus field trips and guest lecturers.
You’ll also produce a senior honors project that could take the form of a research project, scientific experiment, field experience, original creative work or any number of other possibilities. We also feature an honors association that holds regular meetings and event-related activities, including theater performances, concerts, poetry readings and cultural excursions. You’ll also complete journal entries and readings relevant to the activities.
“Fontbonne itself is an educational gold mine and I view the honors program as an opportunity for a select few to get at some of the purest veins of gold — a chance to strike it even richer, educationally.” - Jason Sommer, professor of English and director of the Honors Program
