Major in Middle School Education - Progam Details

The major in middle school education provides the student with a general education curriculum solidly grounded in the liberal arts and provides professional preparation   leading to a teaching certificate for grades 5-9. Students seeking this major must select two areas of concentration from among the following: mathematics, social studies, language arts, and science.  Students must complete at least 21 hours of coursework in the selected disciplines with a minimum cumulative GPA in each of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale.

General Education Requirements

The 42 credit hours of general education requirements are presented in the academic information section in this catalog. A course that meets a general education requirement may also meet a course requirement in the major or a course requirement in another discipline.

The following specific general education courses must be chosen to meet the requirements for this major:

Baccalaureate Degree Requirements

The requirements for all undergraduate degrees are listed in the academic policies and regulations section in this catalog. These requirements include a course in religion.

A student in the Middle School Education must have achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, a 2.75 GPA on a 4.0 scale in courses designated as “professional,” and a 2.5 GPA in the relevant content areas at the times of application for major approval and application for a degree.
