Gallery of Fine Arts

Fine Arts Gallery Lobby: Fine Arts Gallery Lobby

The Fine Arts Department is recognized for its undergraduate and graduate education in painting, drawing, sculpture, graphics, ceramics, and photography.

In 1999-2000, the Fine Arts Building was totally renovated with new art studio space and facilitates. The new gallery is part of the renovation with an outer and inner gallery on the main floor.

The gallery is continuing the Fontbonne University Fine Arts Department history of exhibiting distinguished regional artists. Frank Ferrario and Victor Wang, Fine Arts faculty, served as past gallery directors showing art in the previous gallery located in the University library. Sue Lynn Thomas directed operation of the set up and opening of the new gallery in September 2000. Its first exhibition was an alumni exhibition featuring Ahzad Bogosian, Gilbert Chen, Anne Martin, and Mike Paradise. When Sue Lynn moved to Portland in December 2000, Jody Barksdale became the gallery director. Missouri Plein Air Painters Association, Russell Vanecek, and in February 2002 Robert Lo from Taiwan are the artists who have exhibited in the new gallery along with recent exhibitors Margaret Roach Wheeler, Tony Schanuel, Jean Lopez and James M. Smith.

With Jody moving to Kentucky, Lenda Baxter-Simonic, accepted the position as gallery director and one of the first exhibits she coordinated was Natural Law Juxtaposed by Linda Bangert in January 2007. The 2008 year is starting with a wonderful exhibition by Dongfeng Li and she has great plans for future exhibitions.
