Interdisciplinary Studies at Fontbonne is more than just the sum of its parts. Our three majors, two minors, and one professional certificate aren't just hodgepodge classes thrown together from across campus. Instead, we teach interdisciplinarity as a fundamental orientation to the world.

We offer core courses taught by faculty in Interdisciplinary Studies--teachers who know what it means to think outside the box. But the programs also allow you the flexibility to learn from experts in the traditional disciplines.

Interdisciplinary Studies is an exciting place--a crossroads, yes, for people with multiple interests. But it is more: a home for some of the most original and exhilirating work being done here at Fontbonne.

Advertising

Our advertising major is one of a kind, teaching you the art of persuasion by exploring not only business and communication but also design and psychology. And don't forget about our terrific internship opportunities. With a degree in advertising, you'll have the wide range of skills and experience that advertising executives want.

General Studies

As a General Studies major, you'll cast a wide net, pursuing a flexible liberal arts degree as you explore the natural, aesthetic, and social worlds. Our General Studies major is the course of study with the most broadly interdisciplinary approach.

University Major

If you're like many Fontbonne students, you're interested in and excited by a wide range of ideas. Or maybe you have a career in mind that doesn't seem to fit into any of the traditional majors. Whatever the reason, creating a self-designed major through our University Major program is a great way to custom-fit your education to your needs.

American Culture Studies

In this innovative interdisciplinary program, students explore trends in American thought and culture that make them sharper observers of their worlds, from here on Wydown Boulevard to around the globe, in their personal and their professional lives. This program gives students in all majors an edge on understanding what makes America tick--valuable information for people in majors as diverse as education or English, business or biology.

Professional Development Certificate

Offered through Student Affairs, the Professional Development Certificate Program integrates academics, experiential learning, leadership, service, diversity and multiculturalism, and professional readiness to enhance your career preparation. It is a four-year program that can enhance almost any major and will give you a leg up on your job search when you leave Fontbonne--and make you a smarter, more professionally trained employee well after you accept that first job offer.
