Our new Master of Arts degree in Teaching is perfect for those who have a bachelor’s degree outside of the education field and want to make a positive impact on the lives of children and young adults. As a teacher, you’ll play a key role in helping children and teens become intelligent, confident and responsible adults — an important and rewarding career. Our program allows you to learn the “ins and outs” of teaching in today’s classroom while you earn both your teaching certification and master’s degree.
Our degree is structured to provide you with the knowledge, technical skill and confidence to become a self-directed, lifelong learner who can extend critical, reflective and creative energy to students, colleagues and schools. Plus, according to the U.S. Department of Labor, you should have no trouble finding a job. Teachers are expected to stay in high demand at least throughout the next decade.
Fontbonne has a long history of educational excellence, and our program is well respected for its comprehensive approach. In fact, our Center for Teacher and Therapist Education provides a collaborative setting for training professionals certified in education, special education, deaf education and speech-language pathology. This center serves as a unique model for the preparation of a new generation of teachers. And all of our programs are approved through the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
Post-Baccalaureate Certification
Initial teacher certification for post-baccalaureates is available in elementary education (grades 1–6), middle school education (grades 5–9), secondary education (grades 9–12) and special education (K–12 cross categorical). The director of the MAED program can review with you the prerequisite coursework and general requirements needed for certification.
