DONATIONS

Fontbonne University has several options for accepting donations. Please contact the development office if you have any questions. Donate now, or read about your donation options below.

Fontbonne Reunion Class Gift

Join the spirit of the Reunion Class Gift tradition! In 2003, the Class of 1953 decided to establish an endowed Alumni Scholarship as their 50th reunion class gift to the University. They invited the other reunion classes that year to join them and the Alumni Reunion Endowed Scholarship was established! In an effort to turn this generous idea into a tradition, each year since 2003 all reunion classes have been invited to add their reunion gifts to the scholarship fund. The fund now totals more than $122,000 and a scholarship has been awarded to a deserving student for the past three years. We are hopeful that in the near future the fund will be large enough to offer more than one scholarship.

The objective of this program is to show our current students that Fontbonne alumni continue to support scholarship beyond their own graduation. Of course one day these current students will be alumni and will be invited to participate as well.

Please join your classmates in making a gift to the Alumni Reunion Endowed Scholarship fund. Your gift will help a student to receive Fontbonne’s quality, values-based education and you will further Fontbonne’s mission of preparing leaders – like you – to serve a world in need.

Annual Giving
The Fontbonne University Annual Fund

The Fontbonne University Annual Fund is a convenient way to make an immediate impact on Fontbonne University. It is the very foundation of giving from alumni, parents and friends. Every gift to the Annual Fund, no matter the size, counts toward our annual goals.

Fontbonne donors receive the satisfaction of supporting a value-based, mission driven institution. The Annual Fund supports academic program improvements, faculty development, library operations, technology updates and student tuition assistance. Annual Fund donors receive recognition through several giving clubs. If you would like to make a gift to the Annual Fund, please donate now or contact Sue Wallace, Director of Annual Giving and Special Projects, at 314-719-8044 or swallace@fontbonne.edu.

Capital Giving

Several capital projects are now underway that will improve the campus learning environment. Individuals who believe in the mission and goals of Fontbonne University have decided to structure their gifts for various capital projects. Capital gifts are distinct from annual gifts, because they help fund one-time needs. Some examples of capital gift opportunities include facility construction and renovation and program development. For more information contact Marilyn Sheperd, Vice President for Institutional Advancement at 314-889-4701 or msheperd@fontbonne.edu

Gifts of Stock, Mutual Funds and Other Securities

You can enjoy multiple benefits when you make a gift of stock, mutual funds or other securities to Fontbonne University. If you bought a stock years ago and it has grown in value you can incur a capital gains tax if you sell it. If you give it outright to Fontbonne, you pay no capital gains tax and you receive the full value of the securities at the time you make your gift. Upon receipt of your gift, Fontbonne sells the securities and uses the proceeds to fund current immediate needs or uses the proceeds for the purpose you designate, such as annual scholarship support. Fontbonne pays no tax on the sale because the University is a tax-exempt organization. Securities can make a wonderful gift for a bequest, charitable gift annuity or other type of planned gift arrangement.

Ways to Make a Gift of Securities to Fontbonne University

There are several ways to make gifts of stock, mutual funds and other securities to Fontbonne University.

Electronic Transfer of Stock

If your broker, bank, or financial services company holds the securities you wish to give to Fontbonne, simply notify your broker, trustee officer or other person responsible that you wish to make a gift of such securities to Fontbonne University. Your broker will give you instructions about providing official authorization for such a transfer to Fontbonne. Please ask your broker to call Fontbonne University’s development office, at (314) 889-1408 for complete transfer instructions.

You should then notify Fontbonne University’s development office that you are making a gift of securities (describing the number of shares or units, the name(s) of the stock(s), your broker’s name and phone number, and the purpose for which you wish to designate your gift).
Fontbonne will notify you when the transfer is complete and we will advise you of the value of your gift.

Transfer of Stock by Mail

If you hold your own stock certificates and wish to make a stock gift, you should send your unendorsed stock certificate(s) by registered mail to:

Institutional Advancement
Fontbonne University
6800 Wydown Boulevard
St. Louis, MO 63105

In a separate envelope, by regular mail, please send:

  • A signed stock power form for each stock certificate being mailed. The signature should be exactly as it appears on the stock certificate. Provide only your signature on each stock power.
  • A brief note identifying yourself (name, address, phone number) and describing the name(s) of the stock(s), the number of shares you are gifing to Fontbonne, and your intended purpose for your gift.

Mail both envelopes at the same time. The postmarks determine the “date of the gift.”

Fontbonne University will notify you when the envelopes have been received and the value of your gift has been determined.

Transfer of Stock in Person

Bring your unendorsed stock certificate(s) to:

Institutional Advancement
Fontbonne University
6800 Wydown Boulevard, Ryan Hall, Rm. 205
St. Louis, MO 63105

One or more stock power forms will be provided for your signature as well as a receipt acknowledging your gift and its purpose.

Gift of Mutual Funds

A gift of appreciated mutual funds, held by you longer than one year, can also make a wonderful gift to Fontbonne University. Most often, the mutual fund company must transfer the mutual fund shares. You should contact your mutual fund company to receive proper instructions on how to make a gift of mutual funds to Fontbonne University. A gift of mutual funds can take much longer to complete than a gift of stock.
