Season Preview:
The Fontbonne men's basketball team opens their 2009-2010 basketball season with hopes of advancing to the NCAA Div. III National Tournament for the fourth straight year. Last season, the Griffins earned a share of the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season championship, won the SLIAC Tournament and advanced to their third straight NCAA Tournment. The Griffins finished 18-9 and 12-4 in the SLIAC.
Fontbonne lost three starters from last year's team including two-time SLIAC Player of the Year Brian Fogerty, all-conference guard Patrick McCoy, and SLIAC Tournament MVP Justin Storandt. The Griffins due return last year's SLIAC Newcomer of the Year Chris Forrest (15 ppg) and SLIAC All-Tournament selection Josh Branch (13 ppg). Griffin head coach Lee McKinney is also expecting significant production from juniors Mike Riva and Frank Scheetz. The Griffins are expecting immediate contributions from transfers Freddie Flemming and Daniel Lisch as well as freshmen Eric Hamilton and Ronnie Rust.
Fontbonne opens practice on Oct. 15th and will open their season on Friday, Nov. 20th against Hannibal LaGrange College in the Moody Bible Bible Four Tournament in Chicago, Illinois. For the entire 2009-2010 schedule, click here.
