Season Preview:

The 2010 men's lacrosse season at Fontbonne University will feature the Griffins first appearance in the Midwest Lacrosse Conference (MLC). The MLC was established last season and features Adrian College, Mt. St. Joseph College, Trine University, Carthage College, Albion College and Milwaukee School of Engineering. In the MLC Pre-Season coaches poll, Fontbonne was picked to finish second. Fontbonne head coach Nick Silva, who is entering his fourth season at the helm for the Griffins, is excited about the opportunity to compete in the MLC.

"This is a great opportunity for our program and we hope to make the most of that opportunity," Coach Silva said. He added that he expects his Griffins to contend for the conference title this year.

Fontbonne returns the top two scorers from last season seniors Brooks McGee and Ray Medalla. McGee led Fontbonne in points and assists last year with 15 goals and 18 assists for 33 points. Medella led Fontbonne in goals last year with 16. Seniors Blair Turley and Joe Watson will anchor the defense for the Griffins along with senior short stick defensive midfielder Greg Sweigart.

Seniors Austen Doster and Jake Hirschfeld along with freshman Chad Meurer will battle for playing time in the cage for the Griffins. Coach Silva expects immediate contributions from new recruits Peter Travis, Adam Walker, Tucker Nickols, Derek Arthurs, Mike Liebreich, and Connor Saucier.

The Griffins will be playing a 16-game schedule, largest in school history, beginning on Feb. 20th when they host Ohio Wesleyan University at 2:00 pm. To see the entire men's lacrosse schedule, click here.
