Archbishop Wilton D. Gregory, one of the foremost members of the American Catholic hierarchy, will be the guest speaker at Fontbonne University's Carondelet Lecture Series. He will discuss "Exploring the Jewish/Christian Dialogue" Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. in the Doerr Memorial Chapel on Fontbonne's campus in Clayton, Mo.
Gregory is well known in St. Louis and the Metro-East, having served as bishop of the Belleville, Ill., diocese from 1994 to 2004. During his tenure in Belleville, Gregory was elected vice-president and then president of the National Conference of Catholic Bishops. He was particularly noted for the high quality of his leadership and has written extensively on church issues, publishing numerous articles on the liturgy, particularly regarding the African-American community.
The Carondelet Lecture Series is an activity of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet Endowed Chair in Catholic Thought at Fontbonne and is co-sponsored by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet. This event is part of the university's dedicated semester: "Judaism and Its Cultures."
