Bishop Remi de Roo, a participant in Vatican II, will speak at Fontbonne University on Jan. 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Doerr Chapel. The only bishop
involved in Vatican II who is still lecturing today, Bishop de Roo will speak on "The Prophetic Vision of Blessed Pope John XXIII: Then and Now."
Bishop de Roo was born in Manitoba, Canada, and has served in various ministerial roles throughout his life. He was ordained Bishop of Victoria, B.C., on Dec. 14, 1962, and was subsequently installed at St. Andrew's Cathedral in Victoria. He is a Vatican II Council Father and participated in all four sessions from 1962 - 1965. As bishop, he has taken part in numerous conferences and commissions throughout Canada and the world.
Officially retired in 1999, Bishop de Roo continues lecturing as one of the few surviving Council Fathers today.
