Fontbonne Sews Up Textile Exhibition
ST. LOUIS - The Gallery of Art at Fontbonne University will host "Sift, Measure, Cultivate," an exhibition of the work of textile artists Erin K. Cork, Courtney Henson and Gina Alvarez. The exhibition, sponsored by the Regional Arts Commission, is part of Innovations in Textiles 8, an annual St. Louis event that investigates the state of contemporary textile arts, running from Aug. 28 - Sept. 27. Fontbonne will host an opening reception on Friday, Aug. 28 from 6-8 p.m.
Cork, Henson and Alvarez explore various themes through their art, using diverse textiles, fibers and media. Cork's work compares the relationship between nature and domestic culture, Henson's focuses on the human body, and Alvarez's reflects relationships, conflict and emotion.
"Participation in this event allows us to showcase the work of three outstanding modern artists, and at the same time, expose Fontbonne's gallery and our students to the local St. Louis and national art communities," said Ellen Gouchnour, gallery director. Fontbonne's Gallery of Art is one of many local galleries, non-profit and private arts organizations involved in Innovations in Textiles 8.
