Theatre Department's New Production Looks Beyond "Hamlet"

ST. LOUIS — The Fontbonne University theatre department will present “Fortinbras” March 25-28. This comedy, by Lee Blessing, picks up at the end of Shakespeare’s “Hamlet” and follows the Norwegian Prince Fortinbras as he assumes the throne of Denmark (or Denway, as he wants to rename it). With Hamlet’s ghost stuck in a television set and the (sexy) ghost of Ophelia haunting him, the honest Horatio must tell the “truth” and save the kingdom.

The cast for “Fortinbras” includes Phillip Bettison, David Chandler, Ryan Cooper, Kareem Deanes, Sydney Frasure, Jessica Haley, Craig Hinders, Jean Lang, Stephanie Licklider, Izzy Liu, Terrence Lovett, Chelsea Russell, Tom Stevenson, Zoe Sullivan and Joshua Wolk. The production is directed by Deanna Jent.

“Fortinbras” performances take place Thursday, March 25, through Saturday, March 27, at 8 p.m. and Sunday, March 28, at 2 p.m. in the Fontbonne University Black Box Theatre in the Fine Arts Building, 6800 Wydown Blvd. General admission is $5. Fontbonne students get in free. For more information, call the Fontbonne University box office at 314.889.1425.
