LOUIS - The Fontbonne University/KMOX Book Club welcomes Dave Phillips – St. Louis native, former umpire and author of “Center Field on Fire: An Umpire’s Life with Pine Tar Bats, Spitballs, and Corked Personalities.” The event will take place Thursday, April 12, at 10 a.m. at the East-West Gateway Council of Governments on the 16th floor of the Gateway Tower Building – One S. Memorial Dr.

In “Center Field on Fire,” St. Louis Hall of Fame umpire Dave Phillips and co-author Rob Rains recount some of Phillips’ more memorable games and experiences during his 32-year career in the major leagues. Phillips gives readers a straightforward and often humorous look at the guts of major league baseball, as well as insight into such notable and bizarre events as the 1979 Disco Demolition Night at Chicago’s Comiskey Park.
