EMMIS-ST. LOUIS

PRODUCTION INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW

OVERVIEW:

Emmis St. Louis is proud to offer upcoming radio professionals an intuitive look into the production realm of radio.  Internship lengths will be based on the need for the intern and the educational institutions and their requirements.  Our internship schedule typically ranges from two to three days a week, M-F for three hours.  As an intern with Emmis St. Louis, you will gain experience and knowledge of everyday operations in the departments of sales, traffic and production and how each department works together to obtain the finished product –commercials airing on our four stations.  In addition, you will gain experience with the audio editing platforms in which we and many stations in the industry use on a daily basis to produce professional, quality and effective commercials. We are also proud to give you, as an intern, an opportunity to observe on-air talent and the daily workings of a large market radio show.  At the end of your internship, you will walk away with the knowledge of how commercial radio production departments work on a daily basis and have the basic experience to further your career in the radio/production industry.  Also, the chance to use Emmis St. Louis as a recognized and dominating company in the industry as an addition to your resume.

DUTIES:

As an intern for Emmis St. Louis, you will work closely with the production directors for all four stations (KFTK, KIHT, KPNT and KSHE) and be assigned production on a daily basis.  Your duties will not fall under one specific station, rather all station formats we offer, giving you a wide range of experience with such formats and the production styles each entail. Your duties will be as follows, but not limited to:

*      Completing daily production assigned to you by each production director.

*      Retrieving spots from various on-line services/e-mail and dubbing them into our on-air system (Scott Studios).

*      Transferring spots from station to station.

*      Retrieving production orders from traffic, and delivering them to production directors to assign out.

*      Editing commercials (taking two 30 second commercials, “piggybacking”, to make a full sixty second commercial).

*      Proficiently use SAW, Adobe Audition, Sound Forge and DB Power Amp to complete daily assigned production.

Expectations:

As a production intern for Emmis St. Louis, you are expected to arrive on time on the days and times set forth.  Act in a professional and courteous manner.  Dress appropriately for a casual office environment.  Complete daily assigned production in a timely and efficient manner.  Use all equipment and production facilities in the manner in which they are intended. Uphold all Emmis guidelines and policies set forth in the Internship Packet you received upon your enrollment of your internship. Have fun and enjoy your time as an intern with one of the top and most respected companies in the communication business.

In Addition:

We have added to your experience, the opportunity to sit in and observe many of our

air-talents at Emmis St. Louis.  This gives you the opportunity to see just how an air-shift on a commercial radio station is executed, plus how show prep and the behind the scenes activities all play a part in the final on-air product.  There are also opportunities in sales, promotions and engineering.  We have also implemented production projects throughout your internship.  These include writing, voicing producing commercials, imaging and promos.  This gives you the opportunity to get constructive criticism from professionals in the industry and to have a polished production demo for your portfolio when searching for that first job in the industry.

Tidbits:

*      Emmis St. Louis will issue each intern a Fob (electronic key) for entry into the building and an ID badge that MUST be worn at all times while on the premises.

*      Parking will be paid by Emmis St. Louis for each intern and parking is on a first come, first serve basis in the lot located in front of the Power House building (Union Station Parking Lot). At no time are interns to use the visitor’s parking spots or any other reserved spots assigned to radio/TV employees or vehicles.  A voucher will be given to each intern at the end of each day by internship coordinator/KPNT production director.
