Lifeguard

Now Hiring for Shaw Park Aquatic Center & Center of Clayton summer 2013 season.

Salary - $7.75 - $10.00 hourly based on experience and certifications.

Responsibilities - This position is responsible for watching patrons and enforcing rules, as well as light maintenance and cleaning duties.

Job Qualifications:

Must be at least 16 years old.

Must hold and maintain current certifications in American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, CPR for lifeguards (or Professional Rescuer equivalent), First Aid/AED and the ability to perform all related skills to these certifications.

American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor preferred

Must be able to swim 20 yards, surface dive to a minimum of 12 feet and retrieve a 10 pound object, swimming it back to the starting point and climbing out of the pool in 1 minute and 40 seconds or less.

Swim 300 yards of freestyle or breaststroke

Tread water for 2 minutes with legs only.

Critical Skills:

Ability to recognize and correct unsafe practices by patrons. 

Ability to interact with and maintain good relations with patrons and staff.

Knowledge of emergency policies and procedures and ability to follow them.

Ability to effectively communicate verbally, including projecting voice across a distance.

Remain alert with no lapses in consciousness.

Ability to function in various locations including walking, standing, moving into and around an elevated chair or an extended period of time.

7. Must be able to effectively recognize and respond to persons in distress and clearly identify objects on the bottom of the pool including in assigned areas.
