The Missouri History Museum is accepting applications from students who are interested in an unpaid internship with our digital initiatives department.
The film preservation intern will assist the curator of moving images and sound collections with the inspection, cleaning, inventory, cataloging, and assembly, of new and pre-existing film collections. The intern will gain training and experience with the handling, triage, preservation, cold storage, record keeping, documentation, and review of 16mm and 35mm film formats.
The schedule is flexible, with work hours typically between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, and will be determined with the supervisor. A minimum of ten hours of work per week is required.
Graduate or undergraduate students in good academic standing will be considered. The preferred candidate is studying video/film production; communications, or journalism and possesses visual acuity and good tactile sensitivity. Must be able to lift at least 10 lbs., and must be able to work standing at the film inspection work station.
Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:
· Ability to work independently, set goals and meet deadlines
· Strong organizational skills
· Ability to assess sources, extract information and metadata
· Ability to summarize film content clearly, with brevity in writing
· Interest in popular culture and visual sources
· Knowledge of 20th century St. Louis history and television programming is helpful
· Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
