The Structural Engineer will function as the lead engineer on structural engineering, analysis and design for all projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Perform structural analysis on unitized system including but not limited to bar joists, bents and bridges.
Assign loadings (dead and live) loads to bar joist panel points based on conveyor, pipe, cable tray, walkway layouts/routings and miscellaneous additional equipment.
Engineer/Analyze pipe and pipe rack supports and systems; miscellaneous steel structures and platforms.
Engineer/Analyze production equipment foundations (cupper, bodymakers and decorators) on projects where included in scope.
Analyze structures as complete systems rather than individual unit sections with approximate end conditions.
Interface directly with project Lead CAD/Designer and Project Manager to develop and coordinate structural system general arrangements and system details.
Interface directly with Roeslein Modular Fabrication to review fabrication methods and to inspect structural systems prior to delivery.
Design and/or analyze structural systems for local seismic requirements where applicable. Research seismic requirements for specific location.
Provide primary direction concerning use of applicable design codes and requirements.
Maintain a file of calculations for each project – written and electronic.
Check, update and maintain structural standards and procedures.
Check and review design drawings developed by R&A.
Provide direction and assistance to designers and design/drafters.
Perform site visits occasionally to evaluate modifications required to existing platform and/or building structures.
Develop and maintain relationships with employees at all locations.
Conduct activities in a safe and healthy manner and work in accordance with established safety and company requirements.

Work is performed in an office and uncontrolled atmosphere. Exposure to harsh conditions—such as: dust, fumes, chemicals, hazardous materials, noise, and varying weather and temperatures—for short periods of time is possible. All employees are required to follow safety standards and wear all personal protective equipment in designated areas.
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential function of this job. While performing the duties of this position, the employee will is regularly required to walk, stand, use hands and fingers, grip, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; and talk and hear. Ability to lift and carry 10 lbs. on a regular basis is required.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILL / ABILITY / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree with emphasis in Structural Engineering is required.
Missouri and Illinois Professional Engineering registration required.
Minimum of ten (10) years of experience in industrial structural engineering (primarily steel structures) required.
Minimum of five (5) years of experience as lead structural engineer on industrial steel projects.
Experience with design and analysis of bar joist structures including Pratt and Warren styles.
Experience with RAM Elements software required.
Experience with STADD Pro software is preferred.
Strong analytical and problem solving skills are required.
Experience with Bentley AutoPIPE Pipe stress analysis software is preferred.
Mechanical aptitude and hands-on mechanical/repair experience preferred.
Basic AutoCAD proficiency is preferred.
Ability to work flexible hours and some weekend work may be required.
Excellent communication skills; both oral and written is required.
Exceptional attention to detail.
Excellent organization and planning skills.
Ability to effectively learn and acquire new knowledge and skills.
Computer skills and an in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Windows based programs are required.
Requires effective time management skills, personal conduct, and change management abilities.
Ability to effectively interact with co-workers, clients, vendors, and other business contacts.
