Fontbonne University is pleased to announce an online opportunity for certificated teachers to complete coursework leading to the additional endorsement as a reading specialist. Teachers in the St. Louis area are well aware of Fontbonne’s commitment to educational excellence through its long-standing Master of Arts Degree in Reading and its annual Summer Literacy Institute. Located in the heart of metropolitan St. Louis and chartered in 1917, Fontbonne began with a strong commitment to serve the educational community. Now, teachers across the country may access the educational opportunities characteristic of this small, highly personalized institution. The online reading program is designed to give teachers the needed tools to diagnose, remediate and teach readers of all levels. The convenience of online courses allows teachers to complete the coursework in a timely manner in keeping with their own busy schedules, rather than attending a weekly course set at a specific time of day. Fontbonne University has a tradition of superior instruction in the area of reading, which is at the core of every good, instructional program. This tradition will be continued online with the same scrupulous attention as is offered in our face-to-face program. Teachers who complete 15 hours of the online coursework will be honored with a Fontbonne Reading Certificate. (A minimum of 12 hours in the specialty area is required.) Those who have completed coursework elsewhere and simply need a course or two to complete the certification requirements of their particular states, are welcome to enroll for individual courses. We recommend that each participant carefully consider specific state requirements for reading certification prior to enrolling for coursework. To assist in researching specific state requirements, a listing of every state department of education may be found here. Want more information? Click here! Ready to apply? Click here!
